McDonald Development Group is a family-owned and operated real estate development company with more than 40 years of experience in the Austin–San Antonio IH-35 Corridor. We take a disciplined, efficient approach to development, creating projects that fit the land, serve the market, and stand the test of time.  

We operate in both the residential and commercial sectors, including Light Industrial, Neighborhood Retail, Office, and Medical Office projects. From start to finish, we handle the entire development process internally — acquiring land, entitling, planning, building, leasing, and operating our projects. This integrated model allows us to maintain quality, control costs, and deliver consistent results.

Our development philosophy is rooted in collaboration and long-term thinking. We focus on tenant retention by working closely with our tenants to accommodate growth and expansion needs within our properties. By aligning development decisions with both tenant requirements and market realities, we create efficient, adaptable, and cost-effective environments.

Robert W. McDonald, III

Founder & President

Robert W. McDonald, III founded McDonald Development Group with a long-term vision for Central Texas and a commitment to remaining a low-profile, hands-on developer. He came to the region in 1975 to play golf for Texas State University and has lived and worked in the Austin–San Antonio Corridor for more than 50 years.

Robert strongly believes in developing projects that are well-matched to the land and the surrounding market. By developing most projects internally and retaining ownership of the majority of them, he has built a portfolio guided by quality, efficiency, and durability. His approach emphasizes collaboration with tenants to meet their current and future space needs while delivering cost-conscious, well-designed developments.

With a deep belief in the long-term importance of Central Texas to America’s future, Robert continues to guide the company with a strategic, forward-looking perspective.
